| SYNOPSIS: | Currently, the Alabama Teacher Recruitment Incentive Program (ATRIP) provides scholarships to students in the teaching profession. The Alabama Commission on Higher Education is responsible for establishing policies and procedures for ATRIP. |
| This bill would direct the Commission on Higher Education to promulgate rules that would provide a deferment from ATRIP to allow a recipient to take a leave from the program to take part in a humanitarian religious trip. |
Relating to the Alabama Teacher Recruitment Incentive Program; to direct the Alabama Commission on Higher Education to promulgate rules for deferment from ATRIP; and to provide for a retroactive effect.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. In addition to any other deferments provided, the Alabama Commission on Higher Education shall promulgate rules pursuant to the Administrative Procedure Act to allow an ATRIP recipient to take a leave from the program in order to take part in a humanitarian religious trip.
Section 2. This act shall become effective on the first day of the third month following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law; provided, however, the operation of this act shall be retroactive to January 1, 2006.
