ENROLLED, An Act,

Relating to general elections; to revise deadlines for candidates to qualify for the November 3, 2020, general election schedule to accommodate the dates of the 2020 Republican National Convention; and to provide that this is a one time occurrence.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:

Section 1. (a) This section shall only apply to the November 3, 2020, general election.

(b) For purposes of subsection (b) of Section 17-6-21, Code of Alabama 1975, a nomination for a candidate in the general election shall be finalized electronically by the respective state executive committees not later than 68 days, rather than 76 days, before the general election.

(c) For purposes of subsection (c) of Section 17-6-21, Code of Alabama 1975, the notification deadline for persons who do not wish to accept nomination in the general election is 68 days, rather than 76 days, before the date of the election.

(d) For purposes of subsection (b) of Section 17-9-3 and Section 17-13-22, Code of Alabama 1975, the Secretary of State shall certify electronically to the appropriate judges of probate the names of all candidates to be printed on the ballots in the counties, as applicable, for the general election not later than 66 days, rather than 74 days, before the general election.

(e) For purposes of subsection (b) of Section 17-14-31, Code of Alabama 1975, the certificates of nomination by a political party and nominating petitions must be filed in the office of the Secretary of State no later than the 75th day, rather than the 82nd day, preceding the day of the general election.

Section 2. This act shall become effective immediately following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
